National Women Suffrage Association
- Founded the National Women Suffrage Association in 1869 of which Stanton served as president.
- The National Association was created in response to a split in the American Equal Rights Association over whether the woman's movement should support the Fifteen Amendment to the US Constitution Its founders, Susan B Anthony and , Elizabeth Cady Stanton opposed the Fifteenth Amendment unless it included the vote for women.Men were able to join the organization as members; however, women solely controlled the leadership of the group
- She had a close working relationship with Susan B. Anthony where Stanton was the writer and Anthony delivered the speeches. After the Civil War when legislators were mainly focused on voting rights for black males Anthony and Stanton continued to speak out for women’s suffrage and formed the National Women’s Suffrage Association.
